Description: This course describes some of the foundational knowledge needed to be successful in public procurement, and is divided into two modules. The first module, "Foundations of Public Procurement", discusses the core elements of the profession. This includes defining procurement, its value, and role within government. Furthermore, this module will explore the influence of statutes, regulation, policies and the overall structure of the procurement office. Finally, you will learn about the importance of ethical standards within procurement.

The second module, "The Procurement Process", discusses the various steps of the procurement process. Due to the introductory nature of this course, the content is not meant to be comprehensive, nor is it intended to provide instruction on the policies or procedures of one particular state or entity. Rather, the course focuses on the general procurement process and discusses various best practices throughout.

This course is a web-based training that is self-paced. Given the length, you are encouraged to take the course in small segments that meet the needs of your schedule. You determine, when, where, and at what speed you complete this course.

The Michigan Central Procurement Services developed a proactive Contract Management program to ensure greater contract compliance, with both internal and external stakeholders. The assessment of existing practices was performed by an outside firm and recommendations were made on an enterprise-wide scale. Tools were implemented such as a Contract Management Team, Contract Monitoring Plan, interactive dashboards, SLAs, and metric performance reports. Cronin Awards 2021:  Training for Competition:  Georgia DOAS Small Business Procurement Readiness Workshop

In evaluating its internship program, Arizona discovered that there was a significant disconnect between what the State and what the interns viewed as the main goal of the program. Seeing this disparity, Arizona revamped its program to ensure a more meaningful experience which creates better-qualified candidates for future hiring of these young professionals. &nbsp;Arizona developed a series of soft skills and professionalism training including role-playing the full procurement process. The intern program has helped State Procurement realize savings in three areas: Recruitment, Onboarding, and Conversion Cost. Before the revamp, the state would receive about 40 applications for intern positions and a handful of students at the state’s presentations. Now, Arizona receives over 100 applications to each new position listed and over 40 attendees at presentations.Learning Objectives:1.
