Guilio Mazzone Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award Program was established in 1982 to recognize service, on a continuing exemplary basis, to the public purchasing profession.

In 1994 the award was renamed for Guilio Mazzone. Guilio was the NASPO member from New Jersey, a former NASPO President and the seventh recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. As the lightning rod behind NASPO's recycling involvement - especially with paper and the ASTM, he cultivated a very good relationship between NASPO and the federal government. As important, if not more important, he was a good friend, quick to make new members feel welcome and part of the organization, urging them to get involved. Certainly Guilio was responsible for many members’ decisions to jump into the thick of things! Renaming the award after Guilio lost his fight to cancer represented both our attempt to hold on to a little piece of the “Guilio magic,” and a restatement of the high bar this award represents to NASPO members.
