Background
The National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) was formally
established on January 29, 1947, in Chicago Illinois.
The National Association
of State Procurement Officials is a non-profit association dedicated
to strengthening the procurement community through education, research,
and communication. It is made up of the directors of the central purchasing
offices in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the territories
of the United States. NASPO is an organization through which the member
purchasing officials provide leadership in professional public purchasing,
improve the quality of purchasing and procurement, exchange information
and cooperate to attain greater efficiency and economy.
Educating and Informing
NASPO, in collaboration with the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), formed the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC) to encourage and award the Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) designation and the Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) designation to those in the public purchasing arena. For additional information about the Council, visit www.uppcc.org.
The NASPO listserv is an on-line forum for members to ask questions, exchange information and share solutions virtually instantaneously.
The association also publishes
various reference
books which serve as guides for procurement officials as well as vendors
who do business with the states.
NASPO, in cooperation with GOVERNING
Magazine, sponsors an annual Marketing
to State Governments Seminar for vendors interested in learning state
procurement laws, policies and procedures.
States Helping States
is a service provided by NASPO where members and other government officials
participate in consulting service projects to improve state purchasing
operations.
NASPO holds an annual
conference which provides state members with an excellent networking opportunity
as well as a chance to participate in sessions on timely and provocative
procurement issues.
Strategic Plan
The NASPO Board of Directors adopted a revised strategic plan in July 2006 to guide the association's activities and services over the next 3 - 5 years. A copy
